Dynamic Urbanism - Area Ex Orsi Mangelli, Forli, Italy

This was a project that we commited during the Erasmus exchange in the University of Bologna.

This was a project that we commited during the Erasmus exchange in the University of Bologna. The team was as follows:

Karlo Kalac (HR)
Bruno Šegvić (HR)
Michał Wiater (PL)
Piotr Żelaznowski (PL)

The study area was Area Ex Orsi Mangelli in the city of Forli, Italy. This is a postindustrial site, which was predicted to be redeveloped according to a big project, made by a famous architect. Due to the financial issues, the development was halted, and was realized only partly. Now the whole area is slightly abandoned, people are only passing by, because it is on the way between the Central Railway Station and Historic Centre. The area is currently dominated by commercial buildings, and the popular market Ipercoop. The whole project lacks some human factor itself. We tried to respond to that issue.

Our task was to provide a cheap and temporary solution for the area. The project was supposed to simply enliven this site. We also think that these kinds of solutions may become quite good indicators for future planning and may give some hints for the development, yet designed, but still unbuilt.
The area is well communicated and well situated. There is a promising human flow potential, which we want to use in our proposal. However, I will not post here the whole analysis stage, because it is another book of tables.
We divided the whole area into four smaller parts. Each of them will be given a slightly different character.
So here we have the pallets again. They proved their versatility and utility thousands of times all over the world. We just improved the way the whole thing is behaving. We designed panels that consists of 6 pallets each. Out of those pallets you can set different configurations of the path, just like LEGO blocks. And hey! They are folding!
Now focus!
This is a dynamic urban structure! It can be rearranged in different configurations, every few weeks or months. But you dont close the whle area and reconfigure it. You just start to move the elements form one side towards another part of the area. And it functions all the time "crawling" around and giving people different opportunities depending where it actually is. Each of the parts are animated in a different way, during the whole year. See the animation below to understand it better.
